It’s getting closer to the holidays which means we are diving into the busy business season. That also means we’re diving into the busy family season as well. I want to share with you how to manage the chaos.

If I’m being honest, this is my FAVORITE time of the year. My parents are Jehovah’s Witnesses (JWs). They became JWs when I was 8 or 9, so I didn’t get to have holidays or birthdays and so since I am not a JW, I go super crazy for the holiday season. And I get obsessed with Christmas music and all the fun movies. Hellooooo Hallmark & Lifetime!

On top of wanting to binge all the cuteness, we have events, black Friday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and all the other holidays in between.  So we know how the beautiful chaos encapsulates us during this season.

I wanted to share with you how to manage the chaos during this season.

How To Manage The Chaos During The Holiday Season

Create a schedule (or schedules). I know between my daughter’s dance competitions, my son’s basketball season and working, we have to keep a super tight calendar around what and who is going where and when.

Sometimes my husband and I will have to divide and conquer or we will need to ask for support from grandparents or friends with their kids in the same sports or dance. So making sure you know who needs to be where and when will help you when you’re needing back up from someone.

I normally use Google Calendar for both kids and each kid has their own specific color for their events. My daughter loves purple and my son is normally dark blue. And then I use a different color for my business events so we can keep everything separate.

Create lists. For business, I am working on so many different things and I have client work. I’m sure between work, kids and the home you feel like you’re a chicken running around with its head cut off, right?

Creating lists will help you set yourself up for success and not let things slip through the cracks. I even add some of the lists added into my calendar description. We have that space and people really forget about it. So, if it has to do with having things for kids activities or whatever else is going on, I’ll add that list to it.

Immense self-care. Yes, this is how to manage the chaos. You know you can’t give from an empty cup and if you’re just giving and giving and not replenishing, you’re going to have a grade A meltdown. I’m sharing from ALLLLL the experience. Christmas is my absolute favorite time of the year.

What I do for self-care is:

  • Meditate
  • Get massages
  • Sleep
  • Infrared Sauna (this is truly amazing – and sweating out the toxins is pretty amazing too)
  • Reading

Sometimes depending on the time of the holiday season, I’ll sneak away to a hotel by myself so I know I’m getting an actual good night’s rest. I find it harder to sleep when there’s so much going on, so taking a melatonin with me and forcing me to *shut down* helps.  I find it really helps me to turn OFF my mind because it doesn’t seem to always have an off button.

I’ve found myself waking up in the middle of the night with a mile long list of things to do and not being able to go back to sleep. Can you relate? So this definitely helps get me out of my element and allows me to get more restful sleep.

Now, this is what works for me. Your self-care might be something different and totally opposite. And that is A-OK. You have to do what will allow you to feel good and mostly calm when you’re in the middle of the chaos.

I’d love to hear what you do to manage the chaos throughout this season.
